STUDENT ASSISTANCE PROGRAM (SAP)

School counselors in each of the 1-8 buildings in the Southeast Delco School District are the SAP coordinators for their school. Permission by a parent/guardian is required for any child to participate in any SAP related activity. Please do not hesitate to contact the school counselor at your child's school with any questions related to SAP.

What is SAP?

The Student Assistance Program works in assisting students who appear to be experiencing barriers to their school success. These barriers may be related to emotional issues or to the use of alcohol and other drugs. The SAP team, which consists of trained faculty, administrators, pupil services personnel, and outside consultants, is available to help identify possible barriers and to offer appropriate intervention support. All referrals are confidential.

What does Darby Township School's SAP team offer?

Small groups - Groups are offered to students in grades 4-8 and meet one time per week for approximately 30 minutes for a period of 6-8 weeks. It is the responsibility of the student to make up all classwork that is missed to participate in a group and to be present in class on test days.

Group topics include conflict resolution skills, changing families, grief & loss, boys issues, girls' issues, among many other groups based on the needs of the student population at that time.

Mentoring - SAP trained faculty members are available as mentors to students as needed.

SAP assessments - Assessments are completed by an outside agency (Holcomb Behavioral Health) free of charge and are kept in strict confidence with that agency. The SAP assessor may offer suggestions for community resources based on the needs of the child.

**You may contact the school counselor at any time during the year if you would like to schedule an assessment with our SAP assessor for your child**
