Meet Michele McGowan, an APHS alum and proud member of our board. Mrs. McGowan has one child currently attending and three children who also graduated from Academy Park!
Mrs. McGowan’s priorities as a board member include parent and student advocacy, family engagement, and enhancing the arts in schools.
Fun fact! Mrs. McGowan met her husband on the Academy Park High School stage during play rehearsal. They’ve been together for 29 years!

This week, principals and directors from the Southeast Delco School District visited the Reading School District as part of a unique professional development exchange program. 🏫
Our administrators were able to learn from other professionals through a job shadowing experience and facilitated discussions.
The visit was a great opportunity for both districts to learn practical insights and best practices to benefit our schools and students!

Ms. Monroe Whitsett is dedicated to providing students with educational opportunities and ensuring the district’s fiscal responsibility. She is a community advocate for postsecondary opportunities for students, including entering the trades or attending college.
Outside of her school board responsibilities, Ms. Monroe Whitsett enjoys hiking and spending time outdoors.

The Southeast Delco School Board Committee of the Whole Meeting, will take place Thursday, January 16, at 6:00pm. The meeting will be held at Academy Park High School.


We’ve had great conversations with parents, students, and staff about the proposed school uniform policy over the past few months.
There are still a few more student meetings coming up! A group of students at each school will be randomly selected to attend these meetings.
Thank you to everyone who has already attended a meeting to share your thoughts and learn more about the proposed policy!

Students from 5th grade and up are welcome to audition! Auditions will be held in the Academy Park Auditorium on January 4, from 9:00am to 6:00pm.

The Southeast Delco Board of Education has elected Sheree Monroe Whitsett as president and Cynthia Woodfolk as vice president for 2025! 👏🎉
Congratulations to our new board officers. We are grateful to all members of our board for their dedication, hard work, and service to our school community.


The First Annual DTS Turkey Bowl was nothing short of AMAZING, and it’s clear that both staff and students had a GREAT time. The energy, teamwork, and school spirit were incredible to see, and it wouldn’t have been possible without all of you.
A few special shoutouts:
• Mrs. O’Connell, thank you for arranging for the Philadelphia Eagles Cheerleaders to join us—they were the perfect touch and added so much excitement to the day!
• Isaiah Freeman, star quarterback from Lincoln University, thank you for volunteering your time to coach the student team and inspire our future leaders.
• Dr. Fletcher, thank you for leading the staff team to their big win as our coach extraordinaire!
• Mr. D and Mrs. Carboni, thank you for lining the field, getting the belts ready, and organizing the footballs.
• Ms. Stephens, thank you for providing the tent.
• Ms. Vandegrift, thank you for creating the VIP sign.
• Mrs. Wenner, thank you for designing the Eagles sign and organizing the shirts.
• Mrs. Farley, thank you for crafting the grade-level signs.
• Mrs. Goodwin, thank you for setting up the balloon arch.
• Mrs. Freeman, thank you for coordinating the scoreboard.
• Mr. Carboni, thank you for coming up with this incredible idea to bring us all together.
• Dr. S, Ms. Garnett, Ms. Hubert, and Ms. Muldoon thank you for helping wherever we needed you. You just jumped right in to support.
• Our referees, thank you for bringing the heat and making the game even more fun! You were fantastic!Special congrats to Ms. Harkins for leading her class to victory in the canned food drive! It was awesome to tie these events together, showing how we can all come together for both fun and meaningful contributions to our community.
• To the staff who played—congratulations on coming out as the WINNERS! Your spirit and dedication truly shined.
• To everyone who supported classrooms, helped set up this morning, or kept things running smoothly—this event was a success because of YOU.
For our First Annual Turkey Bowl, it couldn’t have gone better. Thank you DTS Staff for your hard work, enthusiasm, and for making this such a memorable event for our students. We have the BEST staff here at DTS!
